I am officially a working gal now (have been of several months), an ER nurse to be precise. Now I get to experience daily assaults on my eyes (indecent exposure), ears (foul language), nose (foul everything else) and skin (backsplash you do not wish to know about)
It is not all that bad though, it beats sitting at home all day for sure, plus a decent little pay package which allowed me to discard my little 16 year old Shakira and get a nice Ford Focus instead. Soon afterwards I was involved in a car accident on the M4, nothing serious but it meant that for the hottest days of the year so far I was back in Shakira (which my dad duly handed back over to me) and drive with the windows down in order to get a little air that wasn't hot enough to singe my nose hairs. I am still forlornly single, because I am not a realist and enjoy being selfish too much.
I do have one major gripe which I have to vent somewhere and seen as most of my family and friends really do not give a damn about the ins and outs of the Department of Health policies, my blog will have to bear the burden of this rant.
THE 4 HOUR WAIT:
The genius that came up with the bright idea to not let any patient presenting to Accident and Emergency wait longer than four hours, should be hung, drawn and quartered. The idea itself is not so terrible, the fact that most ED's don't have enough staff and resources to deal with the high influx of people presenting to them is. I am so stressed out dealing with the patients I have waiting for blood, X Ray and scan results, referral acceptance and meanwhile the sister in charge is running around like a headless chicken screaming at me not to forget my that 3 of my patients are breaching in 2 min 43 seconds, the other 2 need to be transferred by yours truly to the Emergency Assessment Unit, two ambulance crews are queuing up around the corner with patients that are undoubtedly going to fill up the last two remaining cubicles on my side with old people who have had falls (one bladder infection and the other dehydration) meanwhile the only doctor there has decided to go for a well deserved break 15 minutes into his working day while there are still 10 patients waiting to be seen. The only thing I am grateful for in this situation is that my working day does go that little bit faster but due to the stress (I hate that word) I have had recurring cold sores for about 2 weeks now!!!! Aaaaargh!!!!
On my way home each day I feel so grateful to Allah that I have a job and am doing something interesting so early on in my career.
Next couple of days I am at home and not commuting to outer London to work, I am just going to enjoy myself with a nice trip to the V&A museum and a nice lunch... yummmm

Dahab, don't you just hate the inconvenience of car accidents (after being grateful for no injuries)? A car driven by an idiot teenager collided with mine on May 1st and to my terrible luck, he was uninsured. 2.5 weeks later, no word on what is happening with the insurance.
I don't know how you do what you do, but if it is anything like what I see on ER, you are much stronger than I am. Don't you have some interesting (and disgusting) stories about people with, ahem, interesting habits that bring them to an emergency department? Would love to hear them.
Enjoy your days off!
Well in my case I would be the "idiot" teenager. Sensible as I am I did have car insurance so no worries there.
And on the job front I have PLENTY of stories about dangerous habits of the general population like not using gloves when operating a chain saw, large fire extinguisher nozzles set off in various orifices to extinguish raging fires deep within..... But because of confidentiality reasons one cannot go any further into that.... Not that you'd want to know anyway..... :O
Dahab walaal iskawaran? long time since last, but I do take a peek and read your blog. I feel awkward leaving a comment though:

No need for awkardness, it would help if you weren't anon though....
Dahab!! your back!!
but oh yes car accidents...miskeen but i hear london is crazy so it's most likley not your fault lol
but congrats on the job!!
sounds like you have a pretty stressful job. i like the ironic juxtaposition of your blog title and the subtle complexities (apparently too boring to talk to your friends and family about) of your new job. your 2004 self must be having a nice laugh about it.
dil: Yes hunny! I am back, but for how long this time........ :P
Saidateted: How very observant of you, however my 2004 self rather than laughing is probably having a full blown panic attack at the thought of my "dizzy" self administering high quantities of potent medication to severely ill patients! :s
